Who We Are

The Analytics and Big Data Society (ABD Society) was one of the first in the area to form a professional organization to support the growth of analytics and big data through professional development.  A small group of interested professionals in the field convened to establish the ABD Society as a non-profit entity. Memberships were established, a board was formed and officers elected. A limited membership campaign netted an interested population of companies and we kicked off the year with our first event in May 2013. During the year, we did a total of five events with great success and invited speakers from across the country as well as from some local companies. The Society’s events had an attendance in the range of 40 to 100+ even though the event advertisement was done by “word of mouth.” Throughout the year, over 275 individuals attended the Society’s events, represented from over 45 companies in and around Charlotte.

In the first year of its formation, the Society’s members carried the message of analytics beyond our events. Our members have been called upon to speak at the events organized by the City of Charlotte, Charlotte Chamber of Commerce, UNC Charlotte’s Data Science and Business Analytics Initiative Conference held in March 2014 and have been quoted in both MIT’s Sloan Management Review and Charlotte Business Journal. We fully expect this trend to continue.
